William Cooper married Polly Towns in Pope Co. Il in 1833. Polly was a daughter of Randal Towns. William and Polly had a son named William Henry Cooper born in 1840-41. Polly, William Henry Horatio Rose and Elizabeth Towns (Polly's sister) went to Texas in 1853. William Henry lived in Texas and his descendents lived in Sabine Co.Tx. William Henry served in the Confederate Army. his father, William had been in Texas but returned to Il. and died there before the others left for Texas. William may have been married before and had another family. Searchin for William's parents and family.

Help! I'm searching for my grandfather RUTHERFORD B. HAYES THOMPSON born 1873 in Golconda, Ill. His father might be OSCAR THOMPSON. I think RUTHERFORD lived there in Pope County until he join the service 1900 to 1903. It appears that RUTHERFORD lived back and forth from Brookport, Ill. Massac, County to Golconda, Ill. Pope, County. RUTHERFORD filed for pension in March 19, 1910. All letters from the pension office was returned unopened. RUTHERFORD B. HAYES THOMPSON married ADDIE BLAYLOCK in April 14. 1906, in New Madrid, MO. One son OSCAR LEE EDWARD THOMPSON. ADDIE BLAYLOCK THOMPSON was found in 1980's remarried to a GEORGE S. Our ABBOTT side of the family came to MO and AR from Pope County. We are descendants of a Jonathan ABBOTT who married Mary Ann S.BARGER (Shufflebarger) in Golconda on December 28th, 1854. He lived with a James SMITH who was married to Jemima Abbott from NC for part of his life. He also lived with James Madison ABBOTT, who is either his father or brother? I think he was the youngest brother of James, but have found no definite records to verify. Does anyone know anything about this part of the ABBOTT family? My father Garrett Lathrop Abbott was named for Lewis Garrett Simmons, a cousin. Thanks!

I am looking for information on the BROWN and BELFORD families. My grandmother was AUDREY PEARL BELFORD BROWN, who is believed to be the first R. N. who was born and raised in Pope County. My grandfather, CARL VERTUS BROWN, was a farmer and died in the 1950's. Audrey died in August of 1994.
