Little Grand Pier Cemetery
also known as Clark Cemetery
Cemetery is located in Pope County, north of Golconda off of Illinois Route 146, on private
property. (Click here to view map)
Surveyed with permission in the Summer of 1980 by Christopher M. & Kathryn Sawyer Hooper
2236 Cedar Crest Rd., Richmond, VA 23235. Christopher is the Grt. Grandson of Antoine F.
Halter and his wife Minerva Layman (headstone [A]), and the 2nd Grt. Grandson of John A. and
Selia Layman (headstone [L]).
There are about 45 identifiable graves with either headstones, footstones, or fieldstone markers.
There are 18 headstones with inscriptions marking 26 graves. Earliest inscription dated 1805,
latest inscription (as of 1980) dated 1933. The cemetery is overgrown with wild flowers and
trees have encroached on many graves.
