Joseph Carroll Gibson was b.Feb.22,1814 in Tennessee. I know nothing of his early life. He married Mary Taylor, b.Dec.26,1815 in Alabama (probably near Huntsville), in Tennesse about 1835-1839. The removed to Pope County, IL about the time their first child, William Harrison was born. On June 24, 1840, Joe bought a small farm in the Flat Lick bottomlands about seven miles west of Golconda (Sec.13, R5T13).Joe died August 9,1862 from appendicitis. He was buried, (as was his wife at a later date) in a tiny family graveyard located in a pasture on the land they had purchased when they first came to Pope Co. Mary died July 16, 1877. Offspring of this union were: William Harrison-b.1840, Nancy Jane-b.1842, Samuel Darius-b.1849, and Mary Ellen-b. 1854. I have information on descendants of this couple I am looking for any other information on Joseph and Mary. The Sisler or Sitzler, Rexer, Gibson families all intermarried. The Parmley and Mitchell families are also descendants by marriage. Thank you for any cooperation you may offer.

Greetings from Las Vegas, NV I am originally from Paducah and helping my sister trace our tree. Can you provide any info on the following: Thomas William Walker. B 1826 in Tennessee D. 25 Oct. 1863 in Massac Co. Ill. Although died in Massac County could have lived in Pope County. He married Susan Hendren who was born in 1829 in "the carolinas" and died in 1904 in Unionville, Ill. and buried in Wadlington Cem. Their son Thomas Franklin Walker married Emma Louisa Rexer (spelling also Rixer, Rixa,etc.) Thomas Franklin was born 17 Oct. 1862 in Ill. and died 28 May 1937 and is buried in Oak Grove Cem in Paducah. Emma Louisa Rexer was born in Pope Co. 21 Oct., 1870 and died 11 July 1956. Also buried at Oak Grove They were married 28 March, 1894. Their son Charles Franklin Walker Sr. was my grandfather. I am seeking the ancestry and descendants of MARGARET HAZLE, born Abt. 1806 in Illinois. She married LEONARD E. WEST, eldest son of AMOS WEST and FRANCES HERNDON, on October 25, 1823 in Pope County, Illinois. (Amos and Frances were among the earliest settlers of Logan County, Kentucky.) CAMPBELLITE CHURCH - MOUNT OLIVE CEMETERY, Renshaw I am seeking any information on a church which was located near the site of Mount Olive Cemetery near Renshaw in Pope County. My grandfather always referred to it as the Campbellite Church and I suspect my some of my HALL ancestors attended church there. I would like to know what denomination it was as I would like to see if the denomination has any records of it. The church was in disuse by the 1920's when it was burned while being used as a barn. My grandfather remembered the day it burned (he was a child at the time). Any information will be greatly appreciated.

The children of this couple were: Elizabeth Emeline COX (married Temple PERKINS), James Claborn COX, Roxalanie Jane COX (married Ambrose PAGE and Tom Allen DIXON), John Lewis COX, Mary Ann T. I am still looking for information about my KEITH line. George W. KEITH moved to Pope Co. after 1855 from Alabama. It is believed that he and his family were joining a brother, Griffin KEITH, who had move there earlier. George's wife was Malinda A. GRIFFIN. His father was also named George and was married to a GAMBLE. According to a KEITH expert, this family over the years married several times into the GRIFFIN and GAMBLE lines, all had large families and all named their children George W. The earlier George was born in Virginia. George W. was born ca. 1811 in Georgia and then moved to Alabama. He died in Pope Co., Ill in 1883. Are there any KEITH's, GRIFFIN's or GAMBLE's out there who are connected to this line???

I'm looking for the family of Timothy & Sarah Jane SHUFFLIN. They left Wayne Co., OH after April, 1840 and were in Illinois by the 1840 Pope Co. Census. Timothy died about Oct 17, 1840. In Nov. 1840, Sarah Jane SHUFFLIN, purchased land in Pope Co. (Section 29, T12S R5E). What I would like to know is: what happened to Sarah? Hello Pope County, I am looking for any information that will tell me where and when Hezekiah Ferrell Morris died. He was born in Johnson County in 1844 to William Jackson Morris and Margaret Cantrel. He was last found on the 1880 Pope County Census around Allen Springs. His father died in July of 1880 and some leads point to Missouri but so far no Hezekiah Ferrel Morris. Any help would be appreciated.
